The "Rock of San Nicola" is located in Grottammare and is the result of a landslide occurring long ago. It was made to explode in the mid nineteenth century, being an obstacle to the construction of the railway, and took on its present dimensions. It was previously much larger, and a church dedicated to St. Nicholas stood atop it, hence the name San Nicola.
