Work reproduced as the front and back cover of the comic book "La Sacra di Grottammare a fumetti" ("The Sacra of Grottammare in Comics") by Michele Rossi (texts) and Angelo Maria Ricci (drawings), published by the Town of Grottammare in 2018 to commemorate a traditional local event. Also known as the "Sacra Giubilare" ("Jubilee Sacra"), this religious event derives from the tradition according to which, around 1177, a ship carrying Pope Alexander III was forced by a storm to seek refuge in the harbour of Grottammare. Struck by the welcome he received, the pope granted a special privilege to the local Church of San Martino, later confirmed by the Catholic Church and still today in effect. The privilege consists in a plenary indulgence (that is, pardon for all sins) received by those who make a pilgrimmage to this old church in the years in which the first of July falls on a Sunday.
